Looking for something fun to do this Mother’s Day Weekend, May 7th and 8th? Well, the Performing Arts Association in Foley has the perfect solution. They are hosting their annual arts and crafts show, “Art in the Park.” This tradition has been taking place for thirty-seven years and continues to further develop the cultural enrichment of Baldwin County. The proceeds from sponsors support everything from Art Exhibits to Scholarships for local students.
This year, you will find over 100 exhibitors proudly displaying their original works in pen & ink, oil, watercolor, pottery, stained glass, smocked children’s clothing, wood, porcelain, hand weaving, and much more. In addition to the quality arts and crafts, you will find other activities such as live entertainment, hands-on children’s activity area, local schools’ art contest, and face painting! As always, there will be a variety of food vendors with tasty treats for everyone. Plan to take your mother out for lunch and a stroll through the park to celebrate her day.
Children’s artwork has been a feature of the show for the past twenty-three years. The artwork comes from 14 of the area Elementary and Middle Schools. These exhibits are proudly sponsored by Riviera Utilities each year. The Performing Arts Association is grateful for the support they continue to receive from local sponsors.
Since its inception, over 40 years ago, the Performing Arts Association has been dedicated to the furthering of the arts in this area, first by bringing the Alabama Symphony to Foley and, in later years, through the operation of the Performing Arts Center. Through scholarships, merit awards and grants for special classes and programs throughout the school year we strive to promote an appreciation for art, poetry and music at an early age.
